Planning
JWA is built on decades of expertise in strategic planning for public transport networks. JWA expertise includes short-range service plans, alternatives analysis, and long-range investment plans. We are always eager to work collaboratively with our clients and their stakeholders, and to design and participate in genuine public consultation processes. We develop plans that reflect both community values and technical rigor.

Bus Network Redesigns
JWA specialises in the rethinking, restructuring and complete redesign bus networks. We have redesigned networks for very large cities (such as Houston, Dublin and Moscow) as well as numerous small cities and rural areas. In addition to blank-slate city-wide redesigns, we also provide network planning to adapt bus services to benefit from the addition of rail and BRT corridors.

JWA’s approach to major network redesigns is unique in the world. We provide not only high technical expertise but also guidance about the moral and political choices that a major redesign will inevitably require. We help public transport authorities and operators prepare network plans that they will actually be able to implement. Our clients are prepared for the social dynamics and public opinions that become important when changing bus services that matter in people’s daily lives.
Public Consultation
As a component of larger planning efforts, or as a standalone effort, JWA has extensive experience designing and conducting public and stakeholder engagement. The JWA approach is founded on a commitment to two-way conversations in which participants are heard but also educated about the real choices they face for their public transport network.
Policy
Effective planning is almost always founded on strong policy. JWA is an innovator in constructing public transport polices that answer the real challenges and express local values. Our policy work helps local governments clarify their transportation needs and priorities into actionable policy statements, directly informing network design and planning for years into the future.
Training

A professional training in network design led by JWA.
Our courses and educational workshops serve a range of audiences from entry-level to executive. In training events ranging from a few hours to several days, we lead urban planners, architects, activists, journalists or civic leaders through interactive exercises and lessons that boost their expertise in how public transport actually works.
